Tuesday night was our cookie night. Before we could start, Tyler and Carrie had to make a quick trip to the emergency room to get little Allie some stitches. Her brother and cousin (guess which one) knocked her down and she hit her head on the corner of the wall, slicing her forehead. Three stitches and a couple hours later, she is back to make some cookie mess!
I made two triple batches of sugar cookies! I made them both ahead of time. One I stuck in the fridge for later and the other one I rolled and cut and baked so they would be ready to frost. Six batches of cookies makes a lot! I made a quadruple batch of frosting that we dyed a lot of different colors!
We had sprinkles and candy to decorate with. I think everyone had a really good time. My mom and dad came for a little bit. Tyler and Carrie came with their kids, minus Makayla who is visiting her other grandma. Some friends of ours, The Kings, came with their two kids. Hannah, Summer, and Alexis came and decorated a few too. Halley was working but came after work to help finish up. It was busy and fun.
Cora got really into it and decorated a cookie sheet and a half all by herself in detail. She thinks we should open a restaurant together so I can be the baker and she can be the decorator. I have always wanted to open a bakery...maybe she is on to something!
Wednesday night was candy night. We have been making candy for as long as I can remember. Maybe it hasn't been that long but I would definitely call it a tradition. We make a ton of candy. We used to do it at my mom's but the last few years I have taken over and we have been doing it here at my house. Sometimes there are lots of people to help, other years it has just been me and Carrie. This year there were lots of helpers. My grandma Lulu, Serena, Hannah, Halley, Carrie, Jill, Summer, Katie, Ashley and I were all working on something most of the night. We worked for about four hours and then called it a night. Hannah and Summer were only here for a bit and Halley helped with kids but we had lots of helpers making candy. We made peanut butter balls, caramel, turtles, fudge, peppermint bark, sweet chex mix, cream cheese mints, and three kinds of pretzel chocolates. Today I am making divinity and sugar free double chocolate balls (for my mom and her crazy diet). It is all really yummy but I am sugared out, and exhausted. But you know, I love to do it and I can't wait to pass this tradition on to my kids. I think next year will be Cora's initiation into the candy making realm.
Last night, Renner woke up crying. Being exhausted as I am I jump up to run in and tuck him back in. I get him situated, zip him up and he starts yelling something. In my sleepy state I can't understand him and usually I am pretty good. He is showing me his thumb. I think it is the cut he got the other day bugging him. I assume it must be a flap of skin he doesn't like so I will just bite it off. As I get his thumb to my lips, the words he is saying finally register in my brain..."My booger, Mommy! My Booger!"
Gross. I almost ate his booger. He needed it off so he could suck his thumb. Did I already say gross?
On that note, Merry Christmas Eve!
Stay tuned for more of the Johnson's Holiday activities...
